Website updates
There are two new sections on our website; 'On Site' and 'Recent Projects'.
'On Site' follows the progress of projects where construction has begun and is regularly updated with photos from site visits. 'Recent Projects' has details of competition entries,
recent feasbility studies etc. We have also set up a blog that has more general news on what Edward Cullinan Architects as an office are up to.
Open House
Three of our completed buildings are featuring in the Open House London event taking place on the weekend of the 19th and 20th September.
The Stonebridge Hillside Hub will be open all day
on Saturday and the Greenwich
Millennium Primary School will be open all weekend to the public. A tour of the Herbarium at Kew Gardens will give a good view of the
new wing that we recently completed, with the tour beginning in the new entrance drum that links the old to the new.
'Draw-and-Talk' Series
Ted Cullinan was recently filmed for a series of exclusive 'draw-and-talk' video clips that can be viewed on the RIBA Journal's website.
Hillside Hub Short Film
The official opening of the Stonebridge Hillside Hub was marked with a weekend of carnival events. The local community and the eventual users of the building were involved with the project from the very beginning
and we were eager to know what they thought of the final result, so we asked them:
Four Complete
Over the past year Edward Cullinan Architects has seen four great buildings reach completion; the International Digital Laboratory at the University of Warwick,
the Stonebridge Hillside Hub in north west London, the
new Herbarium at the Royal Botanic Gardens Kew and the
John Hope Gateway at the Royal Botanic Garden Edinburgh.
We are nearing completion on two more projects; a new Library and IT Centre that extends on the east wing of Denys Lasdun's 1950s College masterplan,
in Cambridge and a new mixed-use development on Clink Street in London that has been designed around the historic remains of the mediaeval Winchester Palace.
We are working on two Building Schools for the Future projects for the London Borough of Newham. Currently on site,
Brampton Manor School will be significantly
remodelled as a 10FE secondary school with a new identity in the community. Forest Gate Community School involves the reorganisation of the site, with some new build.
In August this year we also received planning approval for a new Gatehouse building at Torriano Junior School in Camden, north London.
Four More
It is great to see projects completed, but we are equally excited about four new projects.
We are currently working on a masterplan for an exemplar sustainable town in Lincolnshire, a new sub-zero nitrate and acetate film archive for the British Film Institute, a new-build academy
at Shenley Court in Birmingham and the masterplan for a 600 hectare sustainable town extending the Libyan town of Shahat that has grown up next to the ancient city of Cyrene.
