David Cawston
BA, BArch, Architect

David specialises in clear strategic thinking and is keenly interested in both the practice and theory of architecture. He spent five fruitful years of study at Newcastle University's architecture department where he won several awards and was nominated for the national RIBA student awards three times.

He has enjoyed visiting both Newcastle and Kingston Universities as an invited critic. Within ECA he has helped establish a series of weekly talks and debates on design which seek to engender a spirit of creativity within the practice.

Since joining the practice in 2005 David's main achievement has been seeing the Stonebridge Hillside Hub through to completion. This scheme brings together three building typologies (healthcare, community centre and housing). David has also helped lead two prestigious bids for national visitor centre projects at Hadrian's Wall and Stonehenge. He has a keen interest in global architecture and has worked on projects in Karak in Jordan and Riga in Latvia as well as visiting Kenya in 2005 to help locals build houses. He is currently part of the project team working on the sustainable masterplan for the expansion of the town of Shahat, in Libya
