Roddy has worked in the practice for 20 years. He is a senior director and heads up the design review team. Roddy is on the board of Architecture and Design Scotland and a chair of their design review panel. He advises the timber research organisation, Trada, as a member of their board, and he is currently external examiner to the Nottingham University degree course.
He grew up in the Spey Valley in the Highlands and the city of Edinburgh, where he later studied Architecture, gaining a 1st and the Concrete Society Student Award. He has taught and lectured widely in the UK and abroad, including a teaching scholarship in Providence, Rhode Island in 2001. In 1994 he won an RIBA award for the design of his father's house at Avielochan, and was project architect on the Archaeolink Visitor Centre in Aberdeenshire. He had a long association with Stonehenge as Project Architect in the nineties. He has worked on the design of many university buildings including the new Singapore Management University, and more recently Gateway buildings to the ancient city of Petra in Jordan and The Royal Botanic Garden of Edinburgh. He is a committed enthusiast to the design and making of buildings.
