PROJECT: Baldwin Terrace

LOCATION: Islington, London

DATE: 2006 - ongoing

We have planning permission to convert a canalside 19th Century foundry into our new office and to build 12 Code for Sustainable Homes Level 4 apartments on the adjacent site.

The offices are designed to be naturally ventilated using cross ventilation and opening rooflights. Heating, cooling and thermal mass will be provided by circulating water through the ceilings. The temperature of the circulating water will be controlled by a heat pump, which rejects or collects heat from the adjacent canal via a heat exchanger. The heat pump will incorporate a bypass circuit so that cooling may be provided directly from the canal water.
