PROJECT: Cookson-Smith House
LOCATION: London
DATE: 1999
Our client, an architect returning from Hong Kong, desired a house containing a variety of spaces for quiet study, relaxation, entertainment and to display a large collection of oriental art works.
On the banks of the Thames within the Twickenham conservation area, it takes its cues from the surrounding landscape, and the river itself.
Externally we have used brick and zinc, cedar cladding and blinds. Internally the 400 sq metre building enjoys a series of interlocking spaces which reveal themselves as one moves through the various levels. A single strong yellow ochre wall curving up through the house ties the spaces together.
