PROJECT: MacIntyre Projects

LOCATION: Bedfordshire

DATE: 1988

Our experience of working with people with mental health issues began with our work for the MacIntyre charity. Their philosophy is to 'provide a creative, purposeful and dignified way of life for mentally disabled children and adults'.

MacIntyre believe in steering away from the invisibility of traditional institutions, and moving towards providing children and adults with special needs the opportunity to play a meaningful role in society. Our innovative development in Milton Keynes and at Westoning Manor in Bedfordshire, includes workshops, meeting spaces, greenhouses, bakeries and plant shops. Here people live and work in local industry making and selling bread, among other things, to the surrounding community.
